Feel Safe, Feel Secure when travelling with LNER

At LNER it’s really important to us that all of our passengers feel safe and secure when travelling onboard our trains and in our stations.

That’s why we are supporting and promoting the British Transport Police Railway Guardian App.

The app is available across England, Scotland and Wales and will support our aim of ensuring a safe environment and journey for all our customers while travelling. You can even share your location with friends and family while you’re travelling and it gives you information you can trust, at your fingertips, all from one reliable place.

Up to date advice

• There’s lots of helpful information on how to travel safely, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned traveller.

Find the right help

• Browse useful information on a range of topics like personal safety, health, and wellbeing.
• You can also access lots of help from charities and agencies like Women’s Aid, Victim Support and Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

Report something odd

The app makes reporting easy and discrete. If you have any concerns about anything or anyone you encounter, you can text the British Transport Police direct or report crimes or concerns on their homepage. Remember if you see something, say something.

There is also guidance showing how you can intervene (if you feel confident to do so) if you witness inappropriate behaviours.

The app also allows you to get in touch with the Train Operating Company about things that might make you feel unsafe while travelling, like poor lighting in waiting rooms or car parks or any other unsafe areas. You can report vandalism or let them know of anything that makes you feel uncomfortable or at risk.

Reporting sexual harassment

We should all be free to travel where and when we like without feeling unsafe, violated, or intimidated #ZeroToleranceOnRail.

We’re big fans of CCTV. All our stations and properties are covered and lots of it has been recently upgraded. Gone are the days of grainy old footage. We're capturing everything in HD. In addition, our staff are now often equipped by Body Worn Video cameras, so give us a smile!

Remember, you can help us too. Always keep all your luggage and personal belongings with you. Sadly, there are thieves out there, and while our cameras are watching, staff and the British Transport Police are ever-vigilant too, but pickpockets are always around to take advantage.
