Our partnership with CALM

We launched our partnership with Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) in October 2018. CALM are taking a stand against suicide. That means standing against feeling rubbish, standing up to stereotypes, and standing together to show life is always worth living.

CALM do this by provoking conversation, running life-saving services, and bringing people together so they reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don’t die by suicide.

Our Partnership with Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM)

We’re celebrating 5 amazing years of working together with CALM. CALM is the charity making a stand against suicide and we’ve been supporting them by raising over half a million pounds over the years through customer donations and LNER staff fundraising.

To raise awareness on our route of the brilliant work CALM does, we’ve launched a bespoke LNER Azuma called ‘You Belong’.

We’re also matching all your generous donations through attributed Perks Credit and Delay Repay from the beginning of October through to the end of 2023.*

How do we support CALM?

125 lives are lost to suicide every single week in the UK. 1 in 5 people will have suicidal thoughts during their lifetime. CALM is here to show that there is always a reason to stay. Through our partnership, we aim to de-stigmatise mental health struggles and join their movement against suicide, encouraging everyone to seek support when they need it. So far, more than 100 of the LNER team have successfully completed training given by CALM.

Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM said:

"We have been bowled over by the generosity, hard work and dedication from LNER staff and their brilliant customers. Together, you have raised essential funds and awareness of CALM's work up and down the UK. Right now, more people than ever need CALM, and thanks to our partnership we’ve been able step in - providing free, anonymous and confidential support through our campaigns and helpline, and together, leading a Movement Against Suicide. "

You can support CALM by donating your LNER Perks credit or your Delay Repay compensation. Just £8 could pay for a call that could turn someone’s life around.

Look after yourself and those around you

Here are some simple steps to help yourself and those around you:

Make feelings an everyday conversation, it’s good to have an honest chat about how you’re feeling. Normalise it. If you’re having a bad day, talk it through. It really can lighten the load.

Check in on yourself. Make time for 'ME', whether that's a long, hot bath, a stroll in the park or even baking. If you need extra support head to thecalmzone.net

Get in touch with someone out of the blue. Send them a meme, call them, arrange a coffee and a catch-up, surprise them and make their day.

Make plans, give yourself and your friends something to look forward to. A bite to eat at yours, a movie at theirs, just get together.
